Mom and Dad, since I’m five years old now, I realize I’ve had a naive view on poverty and evil in the world. I would greatly appreciate it if you both would sit down and discuss with me what these things look like in my community and around the world. Afterward, we can start giving away those toys I never play with, but insist on needing. How does that sound?”

That’s probably not a conversation a five-year-old will bring up with you.

When parents envision the “perfect” way to raise their children, they’re not excited about the first time they have to discuss the topics that will inevitably come up. The birds and the bees talk, telling their children about real evil in the world, and talking about people who aren’t fortunate enough to have the same stuff or lifestyle they have.

Parents, if you’ve been waiting for this conversation to happen, but weren’t sure how to start it, the Evansville Christian Life Center and Jeremiah Jettison can help.

Our community has a great need to clearly teach our children what poverty looks like here and how they can help. Jeremiah Jettison and the World Beyond the Walls starts the discussion for children and their parents about the tricky topic of poverty. This story is designed to teach your children that we can work together to fight poverty and help others and that it’s more important to offer a hand-up instead of a handout.

Oh, and they’ll have fun while they’re learning too! Major bonus.

Oh, and parents may have their perspective stretched a bit, too! More bonus.
