Holiday Toy Time Pick: Simply Fun

The smell of fresh popcorn filled the room. My eyes perked up and I realized it was time. I jumped from the couch and threw my toys on the ground. I ran into the living room and watched my older brother open the door of the cabinet. As the door slowly opened, I wondered what box he would choose. Would it be my favorite or something new? He chose a beautiful blue box and brought it to the table. Even though I was still learning how to read, the words on the box didn’t matter...it was what was inside that counted. With an excited clap, the rest of my family entered the room. It was time...time for family board game night.

This is one of my most vivid childhood memories as my family gathered together each Friday night to play games. Now, as a parent, there is nothing I love more than sitting down at the table and pulling out a game to share with my husband and children. A game is more than just a challenge, it is dedicated time where my family can learn, laugh and share. Simply Fun understands this concept more than anyone! They have a selection of more than 100 games that focus on the power of play. The best part is that each game only takes 30 minutes or less which is perfect for short attention spans or fitting that quality time into a busy schedule. We can all relate to that!

The games at Simply Fun are more than just games, they are educational avenues for children. From critical thinking to math to team building, every child will gain skills from these games without even realizing it! Teachers would love it as well as extra learning opportunities for the classroom. You can even order your games from other moms, known as Independent Consultants (Playologists), who get the opportunity to support their families and share their love of games!

So, let’s get to the game fun! We had the opportunity to try out Handy which is all about balance (and a lot of laughter). The game is best for ages 8 and up and is recommended for 2-4 players. The best part about this game is that it is completely unpredictable, which is perfect for young children who love the element of surprise.

Each came comes with a set of cards for each player. The cards show you what to do with the balls in terms of placement. As additional players flip over their cards and place their balls on their hands, a “hand tree” begins. You keep going until one player (team) drops a ball. You can play 3 rounds to keep track of points and have a winner! I have to admit, I thought I would be a pro at this game, but it provided lots of fun and challenge for me which I loved. I actually felt the kids had much better balance than me. This is the kind of game you can play for hours and never realize the time has passed so quickly!
