After 4 years of development, design and construction, Wesselman Woods is excited to welcome the community to the Grand Opening of the Welborn Baptist Foundation Nature Playscape. At 3 acres, the Nature Playscape will be the only space of its kind in the area and the largest of its kind in the nation. The Nature Playscape at Wesselman Woods provides dynamic experiences for children in an unstructured nature-based play environment.
Features of the Nature Playscape include pathways, boulders, climbing and crawling areas; dirt digging and sand play areas; messy materials or loose parts areas; nature sights and sounds areas; waterfall, creek and bubble-rocks; as well as outdoor classrooms and story-telling areas. Outdoor rinsing areas are provided for kids who have gotten muddy or dirty with future plans to build a full comfort station, including restrooms, nursing mothers room, and rinsing facilities.
The Grand Opening celebration will take place on Saturday, May 26 from 10 am until 3 pm with free admission to be offered the entire day. Besides being able to play in the Nature Playscape, visitors will able be able enjoy a variety of other offerings, including: animal encounters, storytelling, crafts, community programs, live music, family yoga, a book fair, food trucks and much more. Because parking is limited at the Wesselman Woods Nature Center, additional parking is available at Roberts Park.
