Here Come The Penguins!

A New Exhibit at Mesker Park Zoo

By Diane Braun October 16, 2021

They're finally here!  Mesker Park Zoo has announced the opening of the Penguins of Patagonia exhibit and it's October 27!  For over a year, we've watched the construction, read about the species of penguins who will call Evansville home and waited patiently for their arrival.  So now we know!  Here's some facts and what to expect:

--The exhibit features South American native Humboldt penguins.

--Their water is going to be very, very cold. But they’ll be outside year round.

--The majority of the penguins currently ready for the exhibit are teenagers, age 14--they can live in a zoo environment for over 30 plus years.

--Penguins of Patagonia is built to resemble a Chilean coastline, with a bridge from which penguins can dive into the water.

--It will have indoor and outdoor viewing areas, with the opportunity for visitors to feed penguins coming later, as they become more comfortable.

Let's say a big THANK YOU to the donors who made this possible and get ready to welcome the newest residents of Evansville's Mesker Park Zoo!
