I was recently invited to try out some menu items at Biscuit Belly, a restaurant located on the east side of Evansville, just off Burkhardt Road. The menu is, of course, biscuit-based, which is a good start. Items range from sweet to savory and everything in between. I sat down for an early lunch with my daughter and son-in-law and four year old Sawyer. The menu is kid-friendly, with smaller portions but also fresh fruit and yogurt. My grandson decided on the "bonuts" which are donut balls made from biscuit dough, rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with a small cup of chocolate dipping sauce and vanilla icing. He loved it! It was a sweet treat as he also sampled our dishes. I ordered the "Love Shack" which is an open-faced biscuit with fresh blueberries and strawberries, drizzled with a berry jam and topped with granola. Oh, and did I mention the first layer is melted brie? Well, it is and was delicious.
The portion was enough to fill me up but also made me agreeable to share a few bites with my guests. My daughter tried the parfait which is a tall glass layered with yogurt, fresh fruit and pralines. Again, filling but still shareable. My son-in-law had the "Go Goetta", to me a classic biscuits and sausage gravy but be assured--it is one large biscuit covered in gravy from plate-edge to plate-edge.
