Tell A Fairy Tale!

Ignite Young Imaginations

February 19, 2022

Tell A Fairy Tale Day is February 26th!  This day brings back memories of when my children were small and wanted a bedtime story.  I would pull out the basket of books and let them choose their favorite.  Their dad would say, "Let's make up our own story".  I'd sit and listen and be amazed at how creative my kids were.  Filling in gaps that he would leave for them, giggling or teasing each other, it was a great experience.

This national day on February 26th is our chance to either introduce our children to stories told for decades, even centuries, around a campfire.  Stories that were passed on from generation to generation.  Stories with thrills, laughs, tears and, mostly, happy endings.  The website epic.com has free readable books to click on and a huge selection of fairy tales.  Some are the traditional tales told over and over and some are a little bit silly takes on those classics.  There's even a book on how to write a fairy tale.

That's my suggestion:  help your child make up their own fairy tale!  Ever hear of Mad Libs?  I found this prompt online and thought it would be a great starting point for kids of any age to grow their imagination and tell their own fairy tale!
