Part Four in our National Macaroni Day series takes us to the Prime Time Grill in Newburgh. When I spoke to the owner, David Parker, originally, he mentioned that their macaroni and cheese had actually won an award. Really? First of all, I didn't know there was such a thing. Second, with the great tasting mac and cheese dishes we had already sampled this summer, an AWARD-WINNING mac and cheese sounded off the charts! When we got to the restaurant, David pointed out the award:
It was presented at the Annual Mac & Cheese Festival ... who knew?
As we decided what to order, I noticed that the Macaroni and Cheese was considered an entree. Our server mentioned it was a meal on its own. Sure, I'll try it! We also ordered the Primo Burger which is a good-size burger topped with mozzarella and marinara sauce. While we waited for our order, David spoke to us about his history in the restaurant business and his dream of opening his own place, which is Prime Time Pub & Grill. He also told us he's working on a second location on the north side of Evansville in the old Roca Bar building on Highway 41.
When our dishes were brought to our table and I saw the mac and cheese dish, my only response was "holy cow!" Classic, creamy mac and cheese, topped with bacon and green onions, accompanied by a breadstick. David mentioned that the recipe was his, one he'd worked on for a long time, trying to find the creamiest sauce that had a strong cheesy taste. SUCCESS, David! I was able to eat half of it. Unbelievably satisfying, definitely know there's a bunch of smoked gouda in there.
Prime Time Grill was our final restaurant to visit on our National Macaroni Day tour. If you'd like to check out their menu, go here: Prime Time Pub & Grill
